This message goes out to all of you with resolutions to lose weight in 2005: Halfway through 2003 I embarked on that journey and reached the other side of the mountain a year later. I want to do all I can to give you the hope and determination you’ll need to succeed.

I’m not going to bore you with how exactly I accomplished this, because it was no more than a low-carb diet and circuit training – Which may or may not work for you! Our body chemistries are so different, you’ll need to find out what works best through a little experimentation.
Rather than discuss methods, I want to share tips and attitudes that will really make the biggest difference in whether or not you make it to the finish line. I’ve had six months to reflect since achieving my goal, and I hope you’ll benefit from what I learned.
Information is FREE and this comes from the heart – Enjoy!
1. Referring to the “experimentation” that I mentioned above, you’re going to benefit from some tools: a journal and a fat monitoring scale. You don’t have to get fancy with the journal, a sentence or two should suffice. Combine the knowledge you gain through observation with measurements from the fat monitor and scale to judge your plan’s effectiveness. Adjust until you’re losing fat – not muscle!
2. You must realize that plateaus are going to happen. There were periods of up to two months at a time where I would work diligently at losing and didn’t shed a single pound – or even gained a couple. Do not panic or despair! Keep plugging away and know that the reward that’s coming once you pass the plateau is going to be amazing.
3. My very best advice is this: BE STUBBORN AS HELL AND REFUSE TO BE DETERRED FROM YOUR GOAL!
I really believe that’s the only thing that ultimately made the winning difference. I literally turned this into a silent “me against the world” campaign without ever admitting it. Yeah, this probably sounds a bit freaky, but I’m giving you the straight shit here:
By holding fiercely in my heart to the notion that nothing could deter me, I recognized all of these as enemies – Detractors, Tempters, Naysayers, Doubting Thomases, the Jealous, the Snack Food Industry, my own Sloth, Greed, and Negativity, etc. Branding them all for what they truly were, I gave them a smile and a nod …and plowed through.
The real message here is that if you’re going to succeed you need to have a level of determination fierce enough that nothing can stop you… Meditate on that.

Hi Andrea, in the post itself I listed circuit training and low-carb… But like I said, we’re all different and what works for me certainly won’t work for everyone. In my opinion, what mattered most in terms of achieving success wasn’t the method, but personal dedication – How determined are you not to fail?

Be stubborn.
That’s great advice. And much better sounding to my subconscious self than “be disciplined” which never works for me ’cause I’m too much of a rebel.
Thanks much.
Funny how such seemingly little things can make such a difference.

I agree, I lost alot of weight, a long time ago, before low carb diets were invented (showing my age, heheh) I just cut out the alcohol, ate less and made sure it was all low fat stuff, except breakfast where I allowed myself almost anything. Then I manage to keep it in check by going circuit training which is fun and social. Yes, will power must be applied, especially in the third week, which I beleive is the point at which you start to really lose weight. Use the comments of “critics” against them, make their comments make you feel self-ritious inside and go to be feeling smug and happy that you have beaten them all off, including your own weaknesses and knowing that you can have something to eat wen you wake up! Wel done Aurora

That’s awesome, I’m actually starting out at the same weight that you once were. Hopefully I can be as determined as you.
