Playing Faire

April 15th, 2005

Before you doubt my proclaimed rule over all Geekdom, you should know there was a time when I appeared regularly as a performer at our local Renaissance Faire. Yes, every weekend in Spring you could find me clad in period garb, singing songs, and making people smile.

This year’s festivities begin tomorrow, and though I can no longer be found performing in the streets, I never miss a SoCal Faire. It’s been years since I got to play dress up and speak with a funny accent, but I remember it being lots of fun… Oh well, at least they let me visit!

I’ve only been to the Renaissance Faire once but any time it’s brought up, images of various things perched in cleavage come to mind. Pickles anyone? No? How ’bout some flowers? Crazy, yet entertaining.

I met a midget that did porn the only time I went to a Ren Faire.

Never was my thing, but hey to each his/her own. The big thing around here (yes we have a Renaissance festival too) are the Civil War idiots.
They are handy for helping keep some of the battlegrounds out of the hands of the strip mall developers though.

Wow…you were working my freaking dream job. Im not kidding.

There is never a renaissance fair here where I live. Infact, if you forget to turn your Christmas lights on at Christmas time you will have a legion of puritans marching on your lawn carrying torches and screaming heathen. Things like renaissance fairs, science fairs, book fairs just don’t go over too good here.

Oh well. I guess Im stuck here till I can move.

How was the new location? Haven’t heard good things.

We may have a mutual friend: my buddy Gary from work has been doing faire for 18 years. He plays Sir Charles Blount in St. Michael’s guild. He’s also a founding member of Blackshire’s Company of the Sword.

I wish I’d read this before you went so you could say hello. That’s what I get for missing a day of Aurorealis.

Hey, my hubby is one of the founders of the St. Michael’s Guild! Small world…

I don’t usually do the fairs, but I’ve been performing in Madrigal/Renaissance Dinners since I was 13. For many years I was the Fool, but these days I’m the Lord High Chamberlain. My Gravitar is a picture from last year’s dinner.
