Knowing that I’ll be facing my personal trainer tomorrow morning, it’s hard for me to enjoy National Doughnut Day, as proclaimed by those evil geniuses over at Krispy Kreme. That just means you have to take advantage of their offer for THE FREE DOUGHNUT OF YOUR CHOICE! Head over and wish them my sugary best… Sniffle!

Never really understood the whole Krispy Kreme excitement, and I love doughnuts. There are better ones at regular ‘ol doughnut shops.

Krispy Kreme are some of the worst donuts I have ever had. If I want a donut, I just head over to my 24 hour local donut shop. Gotta love the asian guy that is there at 2am.

Krispy Kremes, when the stars are lined up just so… Ahhh, hedonism at its best. Anybody who glazes and then dips in chocolate the SAME donut, pure genius.

They were great until they got really big. They are a big sell out.

Does their taste actually change once they became a larger corporation? I don’t particularly care for them, but it seems that their taste wouldn’t be any different now, or a few years ago if they still use the same recipe. If they changed the recipe, then that is a different issue in and of itself, Lewis.

I had my first real Krispy Kreme donut ahile back. All this time I had people telling me that they are the best, that they excel compared to other establishments such as Dunkin Donuts. In my opinion, Dunkin Donuts is still king when it comes to taste.
And no, I didnt make my comparison based on the fund raiser donuts. I don’t even consider those true Krispy Kremes.
I used to eat Boston Creme donuts at Dunkin Donuts. Its the type with the chocolate on top and the filling. Very good stuff. On a rating scale, I’d give Dunkin Donuts an 8.5 out of 10 for their version. Krispy Kreme came up short at about a 6. Maybe a 6.2. Where they failed at is the shape (not perfectly round, obvious oval), the texture, and the taste.
Something about the Krispy Kreme version seemed mass produced without care. Don’t get me wrong, it still tasted good. It just didnt taste great.
A few months ago I was trying to hunt down Mister Donut, another franchise popular years back. Turns out Dunkin Donuts bought them out.
As far as I can tell, I have no donut shops around that are mom & pops.
I once was going to try an au-bon-pain donut, but apparently that franchise doesnt take anything but cash, and at the time I wasnt going to hit a cash machine just for a snack. It wouldnt surprise me if au-bon-pain imports their donuts from Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme anyways.

I almost think it’s a regional thing. Here in the South, there’s not much better than a fresh-baked KK doughnut (in my opinion, anyway).

Yuck, Krispy Kremes are sooooo overrated, and if they are not warm they are completely disgusting!
You hit a nerve, my mom thinks KK’s are the best thing this side of the Atlantic and it drives me nuts. Go to a local bakery, support your community, the donuts are better anyway.

Krispy Kreme was ok when i tried it, but me, I’m still Tim Horton’s bitch. Tim’s is the Canadian choice for donuts hands down.

I used to do PR for KK to support their openings in So. California. I was so excited when I first started, but I got sick of them real fast after delivering 50+ dozen to tv stations, radio stations and newspapers at 5 a.m.

They’re no pancake, but I do love me some Krispy Kremes. I’m a fan of anything with sprinkles on it expecially.
