It’s official… I’m in a rut! Bananas and Trader Joe’s Greek style honey flavored yogurt have been my meal of choice for weeks. This is merely the latest phase in a series of many. Previously it was peanut butter waffle sandwiches. I can’t be the only one, too lazy to think ahead and plan meals, comforted by my boring but tasty routine… What are your food ruts?

I usually get around to making a peanutbutter sandwich once I notice that it has been dark out for quite a few hours and I have not eaten. It is something that is easy to make and they are quite filling even after you have forgotten to eat for a day or so.

Mmmmm… Greek style honey yogurt. Growing up as a half-breed Greek girl, we always had homemade yogurt in the house. And we always added honey to it to make it sweet. I haven’t had this in over 30 years.

Yeah, I’m all about a tortilla with some feta cheese. I could live off of those…and I’m pretty sure I have for at least a week.

That SlimFast isn’t bad if you put enough Vodka in it…

Trader Joe’s White Cheddar popcorn (aka “cheesy corn”). It’s the ONLY cheese corn that doesn’t taste like Cheetos (bleh). It actually tastes like…cheddar cheese!
It’s a meal in a bag for me.
Barring that, and since the nearest TJ’s is about an hour away from us (I’m lobbying for a closer one), air-popped popcorn with butter and brewer’s yeast. Really, it’s very yummy (and full of Vit B).

Egad.. I miss the days of eating whatever I wanted for dinner. Usually it was something screwy, like a toasted bagel and an artichoke or half a package of gnocchi and a scrambled egg.
Now with three kids, I’m feeling the protein/vegetable obligation. So I went stepford and learned to cook.

Ramen With Cream Cheese (for my son)…
I cook two packages of ramen noodles, according to package directions.
While the noodles are cooking I blend together in a nice roomy bowl, a half teaspoon of toasted sesame oil, two-three teaspoons of butter, minced ( two small or one fat) scallion, & the flavor packets that came with the ramen.
I drain the cooked noodle, add them to the mix in the bowl, letting the ramen sit on top for minute or so to get the cheese & butter all melted, stir it all together, and VOILA!!!
It’s a cheap, quick, easy, and very very tasty meal which I make all the time for my son.
You can add various things for variety… Sunflower seeds, tunafish, etc.
For those like me, who eat only low carb stuff: Rotisserie chicken from my local supermarket, plus a “salad” of lettuce, with Paul Newman’s Oil & Vinegar salad dressing, which is very good and contains no sugar.

[...] Bananas, for the following reasons – Gwen sings about them, they’re already a staple in my diet, they’re more nutritionally complete, and because beans would just be terribly cruel to others. [...]
