Lest I lose my credibility as a geek, I have purchased the Firefly series on DVD (four disc collector’s edition including the three never aired episodes) and will be catching up shortly. I hope we can finish watching the series in time for the debut of Serenity next week.
Tip to others interested in the original series: Went to pick it up at BestBuy (told you I’m there way too often) and although it’s normally priced at $40.99 they will give you a $20 discount if you ask nicely… There’s some kind of promotion going on right now.

Or we can tell them we know you and get the frequent Bombshell discount…

You lost me at Firefly. The trailer looks good, and I love the Baldwin guy (not of the brother infamy)… So, will I totally be screwed without this ‘prequel’ information? Can you Cliffnote it for me? PLEEEASE???

Ya know, I’m very intrigued by that series. My fiance brought a set of DVDs home from work (he’s in the “industry”) and would like to watch them, but I’m afraid I’ll be so engulfed that I’ll never leave the house.

If any of you are nerds like me, and you use BitTorrent, you can find the full series here.

Welcome aboard Serenity. I loved this show from the minute I saw it on FOX. I was just devastated when they pulled it from the air. It is simply the best SF show ever done, IMHO. I think it’s better than Battlestar Galactica or even *gasp* Star Trek. It’s fucking awesome!!
Tish- Cliffnoting Firefly would take too long. As I understand it, if you’ve never seen the TV show you should still be able to follow the story.
Sci-Fi channel has been re-running all of the shows on Friday nights.

Nanette, you’re right to be afraid. Although I’ve only watched the first episode, I can already see that Easy is right… It’s really an awesome Sci-Fi series. If it keeps getting better, I may even agree with him about how it stacks up against BSG.

I’m a late arrival with Firefly. I never saw it before & even now that I’m trying to catch up, I feel like I’m missing something. The deal at Best Buy sounds like a bargain to me.

Screw the deal at Best Buy, get it for free! Piracy is your friend.
If you aren’t a pirate, you are letting them win.

I can’t say it’s better than Star Trek or BSG because I haven’t seen the series yet… We will have to see.

It’s hard to compare to Star Trek or BSG, because you start getting into an apple/oranges thing…but only slightly. Star Trek at its best is very, very good. Haven’t seen BSG yet, but I’m afraid I’m pretty much always let down by TV these days since they dumped Firefly. We cancelled our satellite account when they cancelled the show.
Firefly is witty, mature (in a good way, not a “Rated X” way), thought provoking, and has believable characters who communicate in believable ways. It’s a sci-fi show that sets up a very believable world and runs with it.

Just finished watching the whole series the other night and it is FAN-EFFING-TASTIC!!! I’m stoked to see them on the big screen.
