Coming Movies

The holiday season is creeping up, and along with it will come a host of new film releases. These blockbusters are preparing to part us with our money at the box office. Here are a few of the upcoming titles that will undoubtedly draw me to theatres:

The Chronicles of Narnia
Disney was a little bit jealous of the LOTR franchise, don’t you think? In response, they’ve picked up this beloved series from CS Lewis. Fine by me as long as they don’t screw it up. Regardless, I’m dying to see Aslan and co. in the first installment: The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe.

Aeon Flux
Though I’ve never been a fan of Charlize Theron’s work, this one looks interesting. Of course, you know I have a weak spot for the ass kicking sci-fi hotties… Being one and all. Crossing my fingers that this movie will live up to its hype. At the very least, the costumes look fantastic.

X-Men III - X3
Not only does the comic book storyline still have so much to offer, but there must be something badass in the works for all the leading stars (Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Famke Janssen) to sign on for another sequel. I can hardly wait… Gambit, anyone?

The Pink Panther
Had the opportunity to participate in a study of this movie before it went into final production and was impressed. This is Steve Martin in his element. In fact, after seeing him as Inspector Clouseau, I can hardly tolerate the original. A little Beyonce didn’t hurt either.

Dead Man’s Chest
Pirates of the Caribbean the sequel, with Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom sharing the screen again next summer. Pure brain candy, with no nutritive value what so ever. Thank you for making piratey hotness even more alluring… Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum!

And now some movies that I’m not very excited about…

Casino Royale
I’m not really interested in seeing this Daniel Craig guy as James Bond. Still having a hard time letting go of the hotness that is Pierce Brosnan as 007… Screw this new guy, I’m staying home.

DOOM
You’d think I’d be all about movies based on popular games, but not this time. Besides, there’s a HALO movie in the works, directed by none other than Peter Jackson, which sounds far more interesting.

Rocky VI
Thank you, but the first five were more than enough… Pass! Nothing on earth could make me want to see that scary miniature plastic surgery train-wreck reprise his nauseating role as the Italian Stallion.

Jurassic Park IV
Velociraptors again? …Zzzz!

So many movies, so little time! It’s so hard getting out to see a movie when you’ve got kids, and work… Those all sound great, especially Pink Panther.

I’m still waiting to see Johnny Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which tells you how often *I* go to the movies!

How could you not comment on the greatest movie ever made… Zathura… I mean Jumanji 2… I mean… That movie was so horrible, it made me want to punch babies.

Dude… I didn’t even know. (Guess I’m lucky?) I thought if anything, people would wonder why I didn’t mention Harry Potter.

  • 4. Kangamini  |  October 17th, 2005 at 3:46 pm

Why didn’t you mention HP?? I’m looking forward to that the most. Are you a Harry Hater?!?!?!?! **flicks and swishes**

No sir, I am not a HH. However, I am desperately behind and must catch up before the next movie premieres… The only one I have viewed so far is the first! …I know, shame on me. :(

    Got to love the XMen

I can’t believe they’re going to try and top the BBC’s Narnia series. Good fucking luck to them.

*runs off to sit in the cinema audience and moan*

I’m really looking forward to seeing The Chronicles of Narnia!

I can’t wait to see The Chronicles of Narnia too - the previews I’ve seen just blow me away.

And yes, Steve Martin in the Pink Panther - can’t miss that!

Narnia and Aeon are my two. I loved the cartoon Aeon when it came on MTV. It was a little sick, but my goodness it was great!

    Aslan

    Nice kitty…

I liked the Aeon Flux cartoons. Strange they may be without much dialogue, the spy action is pretty cool. I can’t wait for the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to come out. I wonder how much they will leave in. I haven’t heard of Dead Man’s Chest until now. If it is as great as the original, then I’ll be very pleased. I wonder if the undead monkey will be in it.

I agree on the bombs. Rocky VI? Rocky VI? What the heck are these people thinking? This reminds me of the movie Airplane where I saw a poster advertising Rocky 6,000 with an old wrinkly man (or something similar.)

Doom - previews look pretty much like the video game in some cases. I played Doom and a little of Doom 2 when they came out. I lost interest after that. And video games usually don’t make good movies - except Tomb Raider of course.

I’m looking forward to many of those, too. I love Aeon Flux when it was part of MTV’s Liquid Television - I hope the movie doesn’t disappoint.

I personally thinnk that most CGI looks terrible (it certainly did in the LOTR movies, albeit a bit better by the end) …but the trailer for chronicles of Narnia actually looks well done… We will have to wait and see.

I’m so excited for those movies myself… Though to be honest, I’ve always thought of Charlize as one of the better actresses in Hollywood.

  • 17. Lisa  |  October 18th, 2005 at 2:14 am

It’s a good thing you put Johnny Depp at the end of the list because I wouldn’t have made it past reading his name. DROOL!!

  • 18. La Bella  |  October 18th, 2005 at 5:38 am

I can’t wait to see Narnia!

  • 19. Master Foley  |  October 18th, 2005 at 6:18 am

Definitely want to see Narnia. I want to see Doom just to see The Rock continuing to improve his acting skills.

  • 20. Hannes  |  October 18th, 2005 at 7:54 am

What? “Son of Rocky: The Italian Pony” doesn’t sound good to you?

Don’t forget the big fella, Kong, coming later this year.

  • 21. The Bombshell  |  October 18th, 2005 at 8:36 am

I have to agree with Master Foley about The Rock… In a way, I do want to see him become the next Schwarzenegger. As much as I love my Governator, in reality it wouldn’t take much to supplant him.

Regarding Kong, I realize that it’s geek blasphemy to say anything negative about a Peter Jackson film, but I can’t watch Adrien Brody on screen, period. That is one ugly mofo. I fear this movie will suck.

  • 22. 'Chele  |  October 18th, 2005 at 8:57 am

Oh wow for me its the Pink Panther… M

  • 23. Shannon  |  October 18th, 2005 at 9:17 am

Jurassic Park… again? Man, they should have stopped that one at the first one.

  • 24. PinkSaltyDickMeat  |  October 18th, 2005 at 9:07 pm

HALO is a complete rip off of Ringworld by Larry Niven
Not that I wouldnt go see the movie :)

  • 25. Zack  |  October 19th, 2005 at 5:15 pm

I totally agree with the movie choices you’ve picked out. Pierce Brosnan works on so many levels with James Bond, so it’ll be sad to see him go. I forgot they were bringing out a Pink Panther movie, so it’ll be interesting to see what that’s like!

  • 26. VDO Princess  |  October 19th, 2005 at 8:58 pm

I’m completely with you on most of those movies. I can’t wait for Narnia! I’ve read the books who-knows-how-many times, and from what I’ve heard, hopefully they’re sticking pretty close. Trailer and special features look amazing.

Doom? DOOM? What is up with this? I mean, the Rock is a nice piece of eye candy, but honestly people….even the trailer just looked like it was part of the game, and who wants to sit through 90 minutes of that?

Oh, and Rocky Zzzz, I mean V-whatever. Yowza. Or something. Wonder if there will be a product placement for Mystic Tan? Seems like there should be, somewhere…

  • 27. TMZ 99  |  October 22nd, 2005 at 8:16 am

Holy shit! Aeon Flux… Now I am excited! Is it just me, or is Hollywood producing more and more good movies each year? It probably contributes to their ‘low profits’ that there’s too much choice and not enough time.

  • 28. ~Easy  |  October 22nd, 2005 at 2:04 pm

Perhaps Steve Martin will be an acceptable Closeau, but I cannot see how they can imrove on the original ones. Peter Sellers is classic!
