Jarhead MovieWelcome to the suck… And speaking of sucking, nobody told me I neglected to mention this movie when listing upcoming attractions earlier this week. I suck. You suck. We suck. Hope the movie won’t.

Are any of you watching “Over There” on television? Word from the spousal unit is that it’s fantastic. I’m too empathic to handle it. Vibrant, intelligent, young people getting blown up never sits well with me. I always wish there was a better way, but alas. My brother spent a year in the Gulf and I hated every minute of it, but I was proud of him, too.

I can’t wait to see this movie and I have been watching “Over There” on and off. It’s hard for me because, officially connected with the military, Ryan’s friends talk about their time in Iraq, and it’s amazing to hear the stories first hand. Ryan has been over there three times and it amazes me when he sometimes talks about the things he’s seen and the pictures he’s shown me. I hope the movie does at least some justice to the reality.

Saw the trailer for this again today at a matinee of Serenity (yes, again). Looks interesting…the hubby even thought so! We’ll see what our jarhead friends think…

I hope I’m not the only one who knew the song and sang when reading “I suck, you suck, we suck” – LOL

Ruby, you’re right on about the soundtrack. I love the song they play during the movie preview… It’s like a fusion of gospel and rap. Really interesting! Hope the rest of the tunes are as good.

I haven’t been to the movies in ages. I just don’t have the time anymore.

i can’t wait to see this movie… and Hubby wants to see this too.
Any movie that has to do with the military, he wants to see it.
I think he imagines himself in with his boys. LOL

They are more like the characters in “M.A.S.H.” That’s exactly what his military work environment is like. Out in the field… :-)

They get into too much trouble. LOL

I can’t wait to see this one. I love everything Jake Gyllenhaal.
And I sure hope it doesn’t suck!

Minor detail, but when I was a Jarhead (a term not to be used loosely in certain circles unless you want to start a fight), our dogtags had convenient little notches at the end opposite the hole. This was to expedite kicking one dogtag between the upper central incisors of battlfield corpses to facilitate identification (the other tag was carried by the kicker to help compile battle loss records later). Ain’t that nice?

Maybe that’s not a real dogtag — or maybe it’s a more modern version than we had in the Old Corps.

    Semper Fi.

I also watch Over There and I think it’s great. It doesn’t just focus on the soldiers in Iraq. It also focuses on the wives, and husbands who are at home. I know it’s not realistic, but neither is ER or CSI. It’s just entertainment, and it’s damned fine writing and acting. And it’s not really any more violent than either of the other two shows I mentioned.

I spent 8 months in Iraq, it wasnt pretty, it wasnt good. All there was, was sand, and dirt. It was terrible, the heat, the cold at night, the sand got everywhere. It wasnt a pretty picture. I knew fourty men and came back with 28. We were and still are the royal british marines… Jarhead shows what life is like out there, descriptive and blunt, just how it was.
