The next time you feel overwhelmed by how hard it is to lose weight, take this tale into consideration. I happen to be one of those people with a sincere uphill battle. Doctors say my metabolism is functioning within the acceptable range, but if so… That is one wide spectrum! My body holds on to fat with a death grip, much like how Whitney Houston holds a crack pipe.
You know about my progress with circuit training, spinning, and dealing with food issues. But today I’m going to give you a glimpse at what it takes, on a consistent basis, for my body to start melting off the lard. If the average young lady were to adhere to this regimen, I bet every dime I own that she’d end up a heck of a lot more slender than the overly curvy size six I must fight hard to keep. Check this insanity…
WEEKLY EXPENDITURE
Mondays: 20 mins lifting, 45 mins spinning, 15 min run.
Tuesdays: 60 minutes on the elliptical trainer.
Wednesdays: 15 mins lifting, 45 mins spinning, 20 min run.
Thursdays: 60 minutes spinning, 20 minute run.
Fridays: SCREW THIS, I NEED A DAY OFF!
Saturdays: 45 mins spinning, 30 mins lifting.
Sundays: 45 mins spinning, 30 mins lifting, 20 mins stairs.
WEEKLY INTAKE
Breakfast: 1/2 banana upon rising.
Mid-Morning: 2 hard boiled eggs.
Lunch: Protein and vegetables.
Afternoon: Other 1/2 banana.
Evening: Yogurt or protein.
Fridays: EAT, DAMMIT!
Let me add that up… That’s almost 8 hours of exercise per week. Do you know of anybody other than athletes who put in that kind of labor? Half the employees at my gym know me by name now. Through all this, I am learning how stubborn I can be when I put my mind to something. Actually feel “sporty” for the first time in my life - Healthy even.
But man, I live for Fridays… It’s nice to have a day off!

PS: Happy Veteran’s Day to all those people who have served (and in the present tense, too!) our country. I am truly and ever grateful.

Before I had my son, oh yes I lived at the gym, I had a personal trainer and would put in over 10 hours a week and I refused to take a day off. I’ve always participated in sports but for some reason the desire to work out was, and still is, in my blood. Yes, it can drive you insane but it feels so good when you lie down to sleep.

Aha! Now I know why girlies go and get knocked up.
It’s all making a lot more sense to me now.

Trust me I oh so miss the gym… I drive past it and nearly have a convulsion.

I recently decided to get in shape, and so I started reading up one what I needed to do. My regiment is rather similar: 6 days on, 1 day off. The amazing thing is that I really don’t even like the foods that I used to crave anymore. I’m so used to eating the healthy stuff that when I do eat that other “devil food” as I will call it, it’s just not that good anymore, and I feel awful after I’ve done it. It’s nice to know that there are others out there who are going through the same stuff. Oh, and I’d like to say congratulations for sticking with it. That’s the hardest part. After all, the key to success is consistency and not perfection.

I’ve found that just cutting out fast food and regular soda has done wonders.

I decided to get in shape and joined my husbands union. I am five sizes down… If I ate as little as you eat I would be wasting away. It’s falling off of me like hot butter. Which leads me to believe that if I don’t do this at some point it would be easy to maintain my weight with a little work… So, you will have to be my trainer at that point.

Wow, if I had 8 hours a week to devote to exercise I could be looking so much better… Yay for you, though! That’s awesome. Between my day job, my jewelry biz, my 4 yr old and keeing my household running, I’m lucky if i make it to Curves 3x/week. *sigh*

Keep it up, I don’t think I could ever just have a yogurt for dinner. Thank God I don’t need to lose weight.

You are very dedicated! Have you tried the “don’t eat anything after 4:00(or less than 5-6 hours before you hit the sack)” plan? I don’t know about you, but I feel much better when I don’t snack into the evening or eat a late dinner. It sounds like you have a very stubborn metabolism. Just think: you would have survived the seige of Lenningrad just fine! Keep that in mind in case a “seige of LA” is eminent.

You… are… AMAZING!
I’d love to work up to 6-days-a-week workouts. I typically go 2-3 times. And I loved your progress chart from last year. That’s really freakin’ awesome! You’re my hero!

This is where perspective comes into play. I do about the same, but probably more weight-lifting and of course I’ve been slacking due to a high incidence of partying. But your fat is my goal-weight.

Holy crap! I’m proud of myself if I make it to the gym 3 x week and stay on the Elliptical trainer for 30 minutes. I need to go to Yoga more too… I love Yoga. I used to be one of those brats who could totally pig out and still be a size 0. Now that I’m almost 30 my metabolism has slowed down, and now I have to work really hard to not gain. I’ve gained 10 lbs since my wedding last Nov. and all my pants are really tight (I’m not a 0 anymore). I’ve had to retire a few pair that I can’t get over my butt anymore.
I only drink water - no coffee or soda for me. That made a huge difference in how I felt. I hardly ever eat fast food or candy/junk too. For snacks I now eat yogurt, apple, grapes, raisins, canned cinnamon pear halves, etc… And I take lots of vitamins and herbs. I feel pretty good.

Man, talk about a workout! I feel like a big, fat, lazy slob after reading everything you do to keep in shape. I was eating a big cinnamon roll before reading this, it’s in the trash now.
