Pink Roses

Until I get off my lazy butt and start a second blog for cosmetic product reviews, you’ll have to suffer through these now and then. Trust me, I only speak up when it’s something stellar. I have always hated the idea of “beauty secrets” and so I share for the sake of all womankind.

Today’s review is for skincare by Kinerase. After hearing about it from different sources, most notably my dermatologist, I decided to try them on my next visit to Sephora (aka Mecca for beauty junkies). They let me sample first, and I later purchased Lotion and Eye Cream.

Now, the active ingredient in these products is called N6 fufuryladenine, and from what I understand, it’s a plant-derived growth factor, similar to the compound which keeps rose petals soft and supple. In human skin, the effects are reported to be similar (and in some cases superior) to those achieved with retinol.

Here is an overview of my experience…

Week One: This is the first topical cream I’ve used that makes good on claims to improve “texture” of skin. I see a marked difference in my skin’s surface. It is also behaving with less sensitivity. Usually my skin overreacts to topicals, but I’ve experienced no irritation with Kinerase. I’m floored that something so gentle can be so effective.

Week Two: Still seeing improvement in texture, but have also started seeing changes in what is usually described as “clarity” or the regularity of pigmentation. Overall, my skin has started looking more flawless, for lack of a better word… Which is probably just another way of saying that it’s improving in many ways at the same time.

Week Three: The eye cream isn’t nearly as effective as the face cream. Still need to seek out a fantastic eye treatment, as this just won’t cut it. Nothing but praise for the lotion, however. Although improvements are less dramatic at this stage, I do feel that my skin’s moisture level has increased, as it does appear increasingly supple.

Week Four: Overall, I am now experiencing more luminous skin with an increasingly even texture and tone. This is certainly the most effective facial treatment that I’ve tried… And I’ve tested a wide range of products. Zero irritation to my highly sensitive skin, and it did not aggrivate my rosacea. The claims Kinerase makes seem well-founded.

Sounds good! I have always been a big fan of Origins products, but I may have to give that a try.

Hmmm sounds good but expensive? I go for no-frills skincare but might give this one a whirl as I can’t help myself once I walk into Sephora.

It is costly… The tube I got was just over a Benjamin, but it will certainly last a VERY long time.

Have you ever tried products by Philosophy? My skin was ruined by acne treatments when I was young and, after years of suffering, I finally discovered their stuff. My favorite is “Hope in a Jar” which is a moisturizer that is almost miraculous in its ability to keep skin balanced.

I have tried Philosophy… Love many of their items, although some are too harsh for my sensitive skin (Hope in a Jar being one of them) but I enjoy their “Pure Grace” bath and fragrance line – Heavenly!

PS: Mega ultra superhero bonus points for being male and yet responding on topic with something so brilliant.

I don’t think you should start a second blog for that… I secretly enjoy knowing tidbits such as this review… but the operative word being secret, I cant go and subscribe to a cosmetic blog ;-)

Oooo, HOT-DIGGITY!! I LOOOOOOOVE Sephora. When I get my financial aid every semester, I always spoil myself over there. I use smashbox foundation with it’s photo finish primer, among other products that cost WAY too much, but of course, it’s worth it!

Speaking of face, remember how you were trying to help me with my acne, well, for some reason, I’m using this Noxema facial wash that automatically comes out as a foam, and my face is clearing up! I’m not too sure, however, that it is the soap though. I think it’s because I’ve been reducing my intake of sugar, hmph…or maybe it’s because I’m getting older, who knows! All I know, is that my face is finally able right now, to have a chance to heal, and the blemishes are disappearing every morning. Of course, I’ve got a dozen or so blacheads, but NO cystic acne! Thank God!!

Okay, more onto this new cream. It sounds interesting, but creams always make me break out because I already have an oily face, hmph. I’ll have to remember that stuff though! Thanks for the beauty tip!! Keep them coming. Shoot, if you EVER made a website about beauty products and reviews, I would DEFINITELY be an active member.

April: Most creams and lotions break me out, too… The texture of this stuff is unlike anything else I’ve ever put on my face. It doesn’t leave me greasy or anything like that. In fact, the texture it leaves behind is quite similar to the Photo Finish from Smashbox that you love. I’m not sure if it’s in a silica base, or what… But it spreads evenly and leaves a slightly matte finish.

Once a while back, I acquired a ton of kinerase when you could only get it by prescription. Hundreds of dollars of samples. I don’t think she ever used them. What a waste.

Isn’t it nice when you find something that actually works like it says it should? Folks, this is really rare in the cosmetics/skin care industry. My “guru” and fave provider of stuff that works is Paula Begoun at http://www.cosmeticop.com Her book “Don’t Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me” should be every girl’s “beauty bible”. Visit her website, you’ll be glad you did! (No, I do NOT work for the company, I’ve just never found a more honest, informative site, and when I can’t find one of the over the counter products she recommends I buy from her line, which is outstanding.)
