For those of you planning ahead for New Year’s resolutions of improved health and fitness, here’s a list of items that I’ve found indispensable:
Ultimate Direction Spree — This little pack frees me from the horror known as a locker room. This bag is very compact, yet somehow holds everything essential. With a headphone port at the top, and an awesome water bottle at its side, I could not live without it!
Apple iPod — If you don’t have one yet, it’s not too late to ask (or be your own) Santa. Having a wide variety of music guarantees a more pleasurable workout. Use the iTunes software to your best advantage by creating playlists to match different moods and intensities.
Harbinger FlexFit — Unless you’re a fan of calluses, invest in a good pair of weightlifting gloves. I don’t care who you are, you need to lift! Cardio alone will not cut it, and I promise, weights won’t make you manly as long as you wear gloves. These are even machine washable.
Brawny Cloths — As unglamorous as this may be, fresh towels are a fitness essential. I saw these in the dishwashing supply aisle and picked up a dozen of them, which turned out to be a brilliant notion. They’re inexpensive and made of soft, thirsty, purple microfiber.
DeFeet SpeeDe — This one came as a surprise to me: The right socks are very important! After some trial and error, I found that the best ones are made for cyclists. They’re constructed from better materials. Don’t let thinness fool you. Fluff does not equal long-term comfort.

Great list! I have Nike gloves and I like ‘em, I’m going to start lifting more. I just finished listening to “The Abs Diet”. It’s geared more for men but I found it to be very practical, informative, interesting and funny. I’ve started taking some of the suggestions and I’m down 2 lbs! (I’ve gained 10 lbs since my wedding last year).

I like that bag. I’m guilty of sometimes zoning out and leaving my keys in the cup holder of the elliptical machine…I hate carrying my water, keys, towel and membership card around from station to station but I never set foot in the locker room. I should invest in one of those bags.
I’m feeling pretty proud of myself - last night I set a new record running on the treadmill at a speed of 5.0 on an incline.
Wish we lived closer to each other, I could use a gym buddy. I’m not working in Pasadena anymore but I work in Burbank 3 times a week. We need to get together one of these days!

Love the list!
I definitely agree about lifting and gloves. My old trainer once told me that I needed gloves so I don’t get “man hands.” It’s probably time to get new ones. And I’m getting an iPod for Christmas to replace the measly MP3 player I have now.

Chele: I think you don’t want TOO much padding, because you still need grip, but I’ve had these for almost four years now and they’re still working perfectly for me.

[...] So, I’m at the gym moments before spinning class is about to begin, and as I’m preparing to don my spiffy new cycling shoes I suddenly realize that I left my towel in the car. Since I just purchased a new pair of trainers last night, I figured I’d just give them a quick test run. [...]
