Last Supper

January 25th, 2011

Two days until we debut the newest member of our family. In the meantime I’ve been enjoying these last few weeks by lavishing attention on my only child. It’s going to be strange (to say the least) dividing my efforts among two little ones. Part of me mourns the loss of our fun daily routine, but for the most part I’m excited to meet our new baby and happy to provide Little Man with someone more his own age to interact with on a daily basis.

It’s wonderful how much easier it is to face “labor day” the second time around, especially since it’s a scheduled c-section and I already know pretty much what to expect. The house is clean. There are quick-fix meals in the freezer. I even wrote a thirty page illustrated manual about how to care for my son while I’m in the hospital. (Yes, I’m that mom.)

We spent this last weekend as a trio just enjoying one another. On Sunday afternoon we headed over to one of our favorite beach resorts, watched a beautiful sunset together, and then shared a fantastic meal at our favorite local restaurant, a “last supper” of sorts. I’m relaxed and ready! (However, prayers for a healthy baby and smooth recovery are still appreciated.)

My Views on Drugs and Alcohol

Public intoxication, driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, serving alcohol to minors, all of these things are a bad idea in my opinion, so I recommend obeying the existing laws regarding these matters. That said, I find the fact that alcohol is so readily available and marijuana is illegal to be kind-of a joke. I’d much rather deal with someone who’s high on weed than a drunk person. Whether they want to more strictly regulate alcohol or allow marijuana use makes no difference to me, since neither of those things interest me much, but it does seem a little bit crazy that both types of intoxicating substances are not treated similarly by the law.
